Research

In my research, I investigate effects of learning in specific environments (home and child care) on cognitive development in early childhood – for example, the effects of dialogic reading, games and music activities on early language, reading, music, and math skills. I am also interested in the effects of reading literature (print exposure) on adults‘ cognition.

In my PhD project, I aim to clarify which language skills benefit from shared storybook reading and language interventions. I have developed print exposure tests for preschoolers and adults which you can find here.

Previously, I have worked in a research project at the MPI for Human Development that investigated transfer effects of early music education on language and reading development, which is described here. There’s also a video (in German) about the project, available here.
